"Não foi apenas um crime contra a própria neta, foi um crime contra toda a sociedade. Foi um ataque direto à Justiça, à dignidade e à confiança de todos que ainda acreditam que a lei deve proteger os mais vulneráveis", essa foi a declaração da ex-nora do desembargador aposentado Rafael Romano, a advogada Luciana de Jesus Pires, mãe da vítima.
Luciana se manifestou logo após tomar conhecimento da prisão de Romano. De acordo com ela "nada do que foi encenado por esse criminoso pode — e jamais deve — influenciar o julgamento moral dos fatos. Não existe "sentença humanitária" quando se trata de estupro de vulnerável. Não existe justificativa. Não existe relativização. Ainda mais quando a vítima é a própria neta", disse.
Para a advogada, a gravidade se torna ainda mais revoltante quando há lembranças que o desembargador construiu sua carreira julgando casos da infância e da adolescência. Por décadas, esteve em uma posição de poder, responsável por proteger crianças. 'E hoje sabemos que, por trás da toga, havia alguém que traía exatamente tudo aquilo que deveria defender', destacou.

Para Luciana, essa situação não pode ser esquecida e também não pode ser amenizada. De acordo com ela, foram 8 anos de luta, enfrentando dor, exposição, ataques, humilhações. 'Minha vida foi invadida. Minha honra foi questionada. Minha filha foi chamada de mentirosa, desacreditada, ferida novamente, não só pelo crime, mas por um sistema que deveria acolher, e muitas vezes falhou. Mas a verdade resistiu. A verdade venceu" disse.
Por tudo que passou, ela disse não aceitar privilégios e regalias. "Não aceito que alguém que cometeu um crime tão grave cumpra pena em condições diferenciadas. Ele não está acima da lei. Nunca esteve. Esse criminoso não pode e não deve representar qualquer instituição. Deve cumprir sua pena como qualquer outro condenado: em um presídio comum" disse.
