O número de países dispostos a se comprometer com um plano de reabertura da navegação comercial pelo Estreito de Ormuz após um cessar-fogo na região subiu para 22.
A informação foi publicada neste sábado (21) pelo governo britânico em seu portal oficial, onde afirma que após a declaração feita nos últimos dias, mais 16 países aderiram à declaração conjunta dos líderes do Reino Unido, Itália, França, Alemanha, Holanda e Japão.
"Após a publicação [em 19 de março], Canadá, Coreia do Sul, Nova Zelândia, Dinamarca, Letônia, Eslovênia, Estônia, Noruega, Suécia, Finlândia, República Tcheca, Romênia, Bahrein, Lituânia, Austrália e Emirados Árabes Unidos" também se juntaram à iniciativa.
O comunicado reforçou que o grupo condena "veementemente os recentes ataques do Irã a embarcações comerciais desarmadas no Golfo, à infraestrutura civil, incluindo instalações de petróleo e gás, e o fechamento de fato do Estreito de Ormuz pelas forças iranianas", informou o comunicado.
Os países também garantiram estar "prontos para contribuir com os esforços para assegurar o trânsito seguro" pela região e elogiaram todas as "nações dispostas a se engajar no planejamento preparatório" para uma iniciativa conjunta.
O grupo ainda expressou "profunda preocupação com a escalada do conflito" no Oriente Médio e instou o Irã a "cessar imediatamente suas ameaças", interromper o uso de minas navais e quaisquer outras tentativas de bloquear o Estreito de Ormuz.
As nações relembraram "o princípio fundamental do direito internacional da liberdade de navegação", culpando "os efeitos das ações do Irã" pelas repercussões que serão "sentidas por pessoas em todos os lugares, especialmente entre as mais vulneráveis".
