O avião Hércules C-130 consegue transportar até 150 pessoas, mas havia um total de 125 pessoas a bordo, entre 114 passageiros e 11 membros da tripulação, segundo o comandante da Força Aeroespacial colombiana, o general Fernando Silva.
O comandante disse que 48 feridos foram resgatados com vida pelas equipes de resgate.
Mas o governo não detalhou ainda o estado de saúde das vítimas.
"Com profunda dor, informo que um avião Hércules da nossa Força Aérea sofreu um trágico acidente enquanto decolava de Puerto Leguízamo, quando transportava tropas da nossa Força Pública. (...) É um evento profundamente doloroso para o país", afirmou o ministro da Defesa colombiano, Pedro Arnulfo, em uma publicação na rede social X.
O ministro afirmou ainda que equipes de resgate trabalham no local da queda do avião colombiano prestando socorro às vítimas.
O presidente da Colômbia, Gustavo Petro, chamou o acidente de "horrível" e aproveitou o incidente para falar sobre a necessidade de investimentos no Exército colombiano, que "estáá em declínio e precisa de modernização".
Uma investigação foi aberta para apurar as causas do acidente com o avião.
