A Polícia Federal prendeu em flagrante, na tarde desta segunda-feira (23/3), uma mulher suspeita de furtar material biológico que estava no Laboratório de Virologia e Biotecnologia Aplicada do Instituto de Biologia da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp).
O material foi localizado e encaminhado ao Ministério da Agricultura e Pecuária para análise. Não foi informado que tipo de material seria e nem as razões do furto.
A própria universidade reportou o desaparecimento do material para a Polícia Federal, que instaurou um inquérito sobre o caso.
Foram cumpridos dois mandados de busca e apreensão na cidade de Campinas. Segundo a Polícia Federal, as investigações vão tentar entender as circunstâncias dos fatos. Os investigados devem responder pelos crimes de furto qualificado, fraude processual e transporte irregular de organismo geneticamente modificado.
