O ex-governador do Rio de Janeiro Cláudio Castro disse nesta terça-feira (24) "receber com grande inconformismo" a decisão do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) que o tornou inelegível até 2030. Por meio de publicação no X (ex-Twitter), o ex-chefe do Executivo fluminense afirmou que irá recorrer "e lutar até a última instância" para "reestabelecer" o que ele considera "um desfecho justo para o caso".
"Tenho plena convicção de que sempre governei o Rio de Janeiro dentro da legalidade, com responsabilidade e absoluto compromisso com a população", escreveu Castro.
O ex-governador também "reiterou" o seu "absoluto respeito aos ministros do TSE e ao devido processo legal". "É importante que se diga que todas as acusações apontadas no processo se referem a questões do período eleitoral de 2022 e não tiveram qualquer influência na expressiva votação que recebi", acrescentou.
Na segunda-feira (23), Castro renunciou ao governo do Rio de Janeiro para se tornar pré-candidato ao Senado. Para concorrer, é necessária a desincompatibilização de cargo público seis meses antes do primeiro turno. Apesar do afastamento, o caso prosseguiu na Corte Eleitoral.
Castro foi acusado de abuso de poder político e econômico nas eleições de 2022. Em maio de 2024, o Tribunal Regional Eleitoral do Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) absolveu o ex-governador e os outros acusados no processo de supostas contratações irregulares na Fundação Centro Estadual de Estatísticas, Pesquisas e Formação de Servidores Públicos do Rio de Janeiro (Ceperj) e na Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).
Segundo o Ministério Público Eleitoral (MPE), Castro obteve vantagem eleitoral no recrutamento de 27.665 pessoas, o que gerou um gasto de R$ 248 milhões. O órgão afirmou que a descentralização de projetos sociais fomentou a medida.
