Pelo novo texto, a isenção do IPTU terá duração inicial de quatro anos, com possibilidade de renovação por mais um período igual. Na prática, o benefício pode se estender por até oito anos.

O secretário municipal de Política Urbana, Leonardo Castro, explicou que a iniciativa busca assegurar que os atuais moradores sejam beneficiados pelas melhorias urbanas. "Nosso desejo é que esses moradores permaneçam por lá, se beneficiando dos investimentos que serão realizados", afirmou.

Limite de altura nos bairros
Castro apontou que bairros como Lagoinha, Bonfim, Carlos Prates, Floresta e Colégio Batista possuem restrições urbanísticas que limitam o porte das construções. "Na prática, estamos falando de edificações que não devem ultrapassar cerca de cinco andares. Não há possibilidade de edifícios altos nesses bairros, especialmente empreendimentos de cinquenta andares", ressaltou.
A proposta segue em tramitação na Câmara Municipal de Belo Horizonte.
