A aeronave teria caído no Golfo Pérsico após ser interceptada pelos sistemas de defesa aérea do Irã,próxima ao Estreito de Ormuz, informou a mídia estatal iraniana.
Ao The New York Times, um oficial estadunidense não identificado informou que o piloto ainda conseguiu tirar a aeronave do espaço aéreo iraniano antes de ejetar e ser resgatado.
Mais cedo nesta sexta, o Irã também informou ter abatido um caça F-15E. Um membro da tripulação foi resgatado, mas outro estaria desaparecido. Três F-15E foram derrubados anteriormente por "fogo amigo" das defesas aéreas do Kuwait no início da guerra.
Até o momento, o Pentágono e o Comando Central dos Estados Unidos não se manifestaram sobre a queda do A-10 Thunderbolt II.
O caso ocorre após Trump e seu secretário de Defesa, Pete Hegseth, terem afirmado repetidamente que os EUA haviam efetivamente vencido a guerra.
Hegseth e comandantes militares falaram em "superioridade aérea" e na degradação das defesas aéreas do Irã. Trump chegou a afirmar que o Irã "não pode fazer nada" contra aviões dos EUA sobrevoando seu território.
O presidente do parlamento iraniano, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, ironizou os Estados Unidos em sua conta na plataforma X após os relatos da derrubada do avião.
"Depois de derrotar o Irã 37 vezes seguidas, essa guerra brilhante e sem estratégia que eles iniciaram agora foi rebaixada de 'mudança de regime' para 'Ei! Alguém pode encontrar nossos pilotos? Por favor?'", afirmou.
