De acordo com o governo, a decisão de não renovar o contrato atual se deu após análise do mercado e de estudos técnicos independentes. A expectativa é de que o novo marco regulatório do gás aumente a concorrência, atraia investimentos e reduza o preço para o consumidor. A previsão é de que o processo licitatório seja concluído no prazo de sete a doze meses.
"Realizamos um trabalho técnico, criterioso e transparente. A modelagem está sendo construída com fundamentos sólidos, garantindo segurança jurídica, previsibilidade e foco na eficiência. O objetivo é estruturar uma concessão que estimule investimentos e promova maior competitividade no setor", afirmou Miccione.
A discussão, às vésperas da eleição para o Palácio Guanabara, tem chamado a atenção do mundo político – a concessão do gás é vista como uma "nova Cedae" em termos de volume de recursos que pode envolver. A CEG, responsável pela distribuição de gás na Região Metropolitana, e a CEG Rio, que abrange o interior, possuem cerca de um milhão de clientes no Rio. A cobertura atual é de 20%, e os contratos vigentes foram assinados em 1997.
