Nunes Marques, que já atuava como vice-presidente, substituirá a ministra Cármen Lúcia
O ministro Kassio Nunes Marques foi eleito nesta terça-feira, 14, como o novo presidente do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE). A eleição, antecipada a pedido da ministra Cármen Lúcia, define o comando da Corte Eleitoral pelos próximos dois anos, incluindo o período das eleições gerais. Marques foi indicado para o Supremo pelo ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro.
O ministro André Mendonça ocupará a vice-presidência. Nunes Marques, que já atuava como vice-presidente, substituirá Cármen Lúcia em uma posse prevista para ocorrer até o final de maio.
Em seu discurso de agradecimento, o ministro classificou a eleição como uma das maiores honras de sua vida, enquanto Mendonça reforçou o compromisso com o fortalecimento da democracia brasileira durante o pleito deste ano.

Composição e funcionamento da Corte Eleitoral
O TSE possui uma estrutura rotativa e híbrida, composta por sete ministros efetivos. A liderança é obrigatoriamente exercida por um dos três magistrados oriundos do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF).
Além deles, compõem o pleno dois ministros do Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) e dois juristas nomeados pela Presidência da República.

Perfil dos novos dirigentes
Nunes Marques: Natural do Piauí, é ministro do STF desde 2020. Possui vasta trajetória na magistratura federal e foi o relator das normas que regerão as eleições de 2026. É doutor e pós-doutor pela Universidade de Salamanca.
André Mendonça: Paulista e ministro do STF desde 2021, Mendonça possui histórico na Advocacia-Geral da União (AGU) e no Ministério da Justiça. Também é doutor pela Universidade de Salamanca e especialista em Direito Público.
