Heimo Schirgi, diretor de operações da Copa do Mundo de 2026, disse que o aumento forçará os torcedores a buscar alternativas.
"O atual modelo de preços da NJ Transit terá um efeito inibidor. Tarifas elevadas inevitavelmente empurram os torcedores para opções alternativas de transporte", afirmou Schirgi em comunicado.
"Isso aumenta as preocupações com congestionamentos, chegadas tardias e cria efeitos em cascata mais amplos que, em última análise, reduzem o benefício econômico e o legado duradouro que toda a região pode obter com a realização da Copa do Mundo."
"Além disso, estabelecer arbitrariamente preços elevados e exigir que a Fifa absorva esses custos não tem precedentes. Nenhum outro evento global, show ou grande promotor esportivo enfrentou tal exigência."
Governadora diz que "Fifa deve pagar"
A governadora de Nova Jersey, Mikie Sherrill, disse anteriormente que a NJ Transit havia sido "deixada com uma conta de US$ 48 milhões" para garantir a segurança dos torcedores, enquanto a Fifa estaria arrecadando US$ 11 bilhões.
"Não vou deixar que os passageiros de Nova Jersey paguem essa conta pelos próximos anos. A Fifa deve pagar pelas viagens", afirmou Sherrill.

A Fifa contestou a declaração da governadora, dizendo que os US$ 11 bilhões se referem à receita, não ao lucro.
"A Fifa sempre foi uma organização sem fins lucrativos, de acordo com nossos estatutos. As receitas da Copa do Mundo são reinvestidas no desenvolvimento do futebol, especialmente para jovens e mulheres, em todo o mundo", acrescentou Schirgi.
