A corretora de criptomoedas Bithumb, uma das maiores da Coreia do Sul, enfrentou um erro grave nesta sexta-feira (6), ao transferir acidentalmente mais de US$ 40 bilhões em bitcoins a clientes durante uma ação promocional. O incidente gerou uma forte onda de vendas na plataforma e forçou a empresa a suspender temporariamente as operações.
Em nota divulgada neste sábado (7), a Bithumb pediu desculpas e informou ter conseguido recuperar 99,7% dos 620 mil bitcoins enviados por engano, equivalentes a cerca de US$ 44 bilhões. Segundo a empresa, as negociações e saques dos 695 clientes afetados foram bloqueados em até 35 minutos após o erro.
A promoção previa o envio de pequenas recompensas em dinheiro, cerca de 2.000 won (US$ 1,40), mas, devido a uma falha, os usuários receberam ao menos 2.000 bitcoins cada, de acordo com a imprensa local.
