Como produto artístico, embora seja uma "preferência nacional", a telenovela sempre foi tratada como algo inferior. Mas quero pedir uma chance para uma trama que tem tudo a ver com o momento — e com alguns temas que tratamos aqui.
Exibida em 2012 e ganhadora do Emmy Internacional, Lado a Lado é uma novela que vale a pena ser vista. É curta, com 154 capítulos de pouco mais de 30 minutos e faz um interessante retrato histórico do Brasil.
Entre os temas que aborda, a trama traz o surgimento das primeiras favelas – e de como a desigualdade de renda se constrói e consolida no Brasil do século XIX, trata da chegada do futebol e sua transformação em paixão nacional e, ainda, fala sobre o carnaval e seu apelo popular tão brasileiro.
Eu gosto desse tipo de conteúdo e o indico porque quando a gente discute economia, há problemas que podem até ter atraído nossa atenção no tempo presente, mas sua origem precede a nossa existência e o horizonte de tempo que conseguimos enxergar.
A desigualdade social, a questão da produtividade, a dificuldade de ter profissionais qualificados no mercado de trabalho: tudo isso nos assola hoje, mas não começou hoje. Nem num horizonte de tempo que eu e você, nascidos no século passado, conseguimos ver.
Lado a Lado é água com açúcar. Tem romance e roda de capoeira. Mas é também uma sutil aula de Brasil que a gente que se interessa pela economia e pelas relações do mundo em que vivemos vai precisar se quiser encontrar soluções novas para velhos problemas.
