O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugura na manhã deste domingo de carnaval (15) o Centro de Emergência Regional (CER) do Hospital Federal Cardoso Fontes (HFCF), em Jacarepaguá (Av. Menezes Cortes, 3.245), na zona sudoeste do Rio de Janeiro. A unidade pertence à rede do Sistema Único de Saúde e presta atendimento gratuito à população.
Conforme estabelecido em acordo de cooperação técnica firmado entre o governo federal e a prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro em dezembro de 2024, o município é responsável pela gestão do hospital. O governo federal faz investimentos para recuperação da unidade e ampliação da capacidade de atendimento, previsão de mais de 114 milhões.
O HFCF é referência em fisioterapia oncológica, ginecologia, nefrologia (sistema urinário), pneumologia, urologia e tratamentos de insuficiência renal em crianças. A unidade faz atendimentos de alta complexidade (com tecnologia avançada e equipes especializadas) e de média complexidade (para exames, diagnóstico, terapia e cirurgias pontuais).
O Hospital Federal Cardoso Fontes foi inaugurado em 1945 por Getúlio Vargas. O médico Antônio Cardoso Fontes (1879-1943), que dá nome à unidade, foi pesquisador do bacilo da tuberculose e trabalhou na Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. (com Agência Brasil)
