Navio que desbravou a Antártida inclina no Porto de Santos
Com mais de 60 anos de história de serviços prestados à pesquisa naval do Brasil, a embarcação levou os primeiros brasileiros para expedições científicas na Antártida. O Professor W. Besnard passou por mais de 10 mil pontos de coleta para estudos, além de 260 viagens para formação de pesquisadores. O navio fez expedições também pelo arquipélago de Cabo Verde.
"Nós viemos adotar providências para o resgate do navio Professor Besnard, que tem 60 anos de história e de serviços prestados à pesquisa naval brasileira. Infelizmente, o navio está inativo. O casco sofreu avarias, entrou água e ele adernou", disse o presidente da Autoridade Portuária de Santos (APS), Anderson Pomini, responsável pelo cais santista.
A APS isolou a área e instalou barreiras de contenção no mar para evitar acidentes ambientais por vazamento de óleo, por exemplo. A Marinha do Brasil, por meio da Capitania dos Portos de São Paulo (CPSP), também esteve no local. Com dois peritos militares, o órgão apontou que a situação não oferecia risco iminente à navegação, mas um Inquérito Administrativo sobre Acidentes e Fatos da Navegação (IAFN) foi instaurado para apurar as causas e possíveis responsáveis.
"A propriedade desse navio é do Instituto do Mar, uma associação sem fins lucrativos que vem, há muitos anos, se dedicando à sua recuperação, mas que não possui recursos", explicou Pomini.
O presidente da Autoridade Portuária disse ainda que a APS, junto à parceiros, vai lutar para que a história da embarcação Professor W. Besnard não naufrague com o navio.
"Se recuperação completa não for possível, parte dele será preservada aqui no Parque Valongo. O Porto de Santos, por ser uma empresa pública, não pode arcar com esse custo diretamente, mas deve mobilizar os parceiros e as empresas que compõem a comunidade portuária local. E já estamos fazendo isso, porque preservar a nossa história também é cuidar do futuro do Brasil", finalizou o presidente.
