Exposição no CCBB SP celebra trajetória de Joaquín Torres García
A seleção, com curadoria de Saulo di Tarso em colaboração com o Museo Torres García, apresenta um amplo panorama da produção de Torres García (1874–1949), figura central da arte moderna latino-americana.
Um dos destaques da mostra é a presença de "América Invertida" (1943), imagem em que o continente sul-americano aparece de cabeça para baixo. O desenho sintetiza a frase"Nuestro norte es el sur" e materializa a defesa de uma independência simbólica e cultural da América Latina. Ao inverter o mapa, Torres García propõe deslocar o olhar e afirmar o sul como origem e referência.
A mostra aprofunda ainda o conceito de universalismo construtivo, desenvolvido pelo artista ao longo de décadas. Em suas composições geométricas, símbolos como sol, peixe, barco, relógio e figuras humanas organizam-se em estruturas que unem razão e espiritualidade.
Também ganha destaque a dimensão pedagógica do artista, especialmente a experiência do Taller Torres García, criado em Montevidéu nos anos 1940. Ali, defendia que artistas latino-americanos desenvolvessem uma produção conectada às próprias raízes, sem dependência estética da Europa ou dos Estados Unidos.
A exposição inclui 90 volumes manuscritos, reunidos pela primeira vez em conjunto, além de desenhos da autobiografia Historia de mi vida e publicações históricas como Cercle et Carré e La ciudad sin nombre.
Os "Juguetes" — brinquedos de madeira criados em família — ocupam lugar central na narrativa. Produzidos em um período de dificuldades financeiras, eles se tornaram expressão da integração entre arte e vida cotidiana. Ao lado deles, estudos e maquetes relacionados ao Monumento Cósmico (1938) revelam o diálogo entre geometria e referências à arte pré-colombiana.
A mostra também estabelece ainda conexões com o Brasil. O pensamento construtivo de Torres García influenciou gerações de artistas concretos e neoconcretos, e o percurso inclui obras de nomes como Anna Bella Geiger, Cildo Meireles, Hélio Oiticica, Alfredo Volpi e Arthur Bispo do Rosário, ampliando o diálogo entre o artista uruguaio e a produção brasileira.
Em cartaz no prédio histórico do CCBB, no centro da capital paulista, a exposição integra uma itinerância que seguirá para Brasília e Belo Horizonte em 2026.
