A refinaria SAMREF da petrolífera Saudi Aramco, foi alvo de um ataque aéreo nesta quinta-feira (19), no porto de Yanbu, na Arábia Saudita. Uma fonte do setor afirmou que o impacto na estrutura foi mínimo.

Na quinta-feira, a Guarda Revolucionária Islâmica do Irã emitiu um alerta de evacuação para diversas instalações petrolíferas na Arábia Saudita, nos Emirados Árabes Unidos e no Catar, incluindo a SAMREF.

O porto de Yanbu, no Mar Vermelho, é atualmente a única saída de exportação para o petróleo bruto dos países árabes do Golfo, já que o Irã efetivamente fechou o Estreito de Ormuz, a via navegável que compartilha com Omã, por onde normalmente flui um quinto do suprimento mundial de petróleo.

Em retaliação, o regime dos aiatolás fez ataques contra diversos países da região, como Emirados Árabes Unidos, Arábia Saudita, Catar, Bahrein, Kuwait, Jordânia, Iraque e Omã. As autoridades iranianas dizem que têm como alvo apenas interesses dos Estados Unidos e Israel nessas nações.

Mais de 1.200 civis morreram no Irã desde o início da guerra, segundo a Agência de Notícias de Ativistas de Direitos Humanos, que tem sede nos EUA. A Casa Branca, por sua vez, registrou ao menos sete mortes de soldados americanos em relação direta aos ataques iranianos.

O conflito também se expandiu para o Líbano. O Hezbollah, um grupo armado apoiado pelo Irã, atacou o território israelense em retaliação à morte de Ali Khamenei. Com isso, Israel tem realizado ofensivas aéreas contra o que diz ser alvos do Hezbollah no país vizinho. Centenas de pessoas morreram no território libanês desde então.

Com a morte de grande parte de sua liderança, um conselho do Irã elegeu um novo líder supremo: Mojtaba Khamenei, filho de Ali Khamenei. Especialistas apontam que ele não fará mudanças estruturais e representa continuidade da repressão.

Donald Trump mostrou descontentamento com essa escolha, classificando como um "grande erro". Ele havia dito que precisaria estar envolvido no processo e pontuou que Mojtaba seria "inaceitável" para a liderança do Irã.
