O governo dos Estados Unidos anunciou nesta sexta-feira (20) uma isenção de sanções por 30 dias para a compra de petróleo do Irã no mar. A medida, divulgada pelo secretário do Tesouro, Scott Bessent, busca aliviar a pressão no fornecimento global de energia em meio à guerra envolvendo EUA, Israel e Irã.

Segundo o Departamento do Tesouro, a licença permite a comercialização de petróleo bruto iraniano e derivados embarcados entre 20 de março e 19 de abril. Esta é a terceira flexibilização de sanções em cerca de duas semanas, após medidas semelhantes envolvendo também o petróleo russo.

De acordo com Bessent, a liberação deve colocar cerca de 140 milhões de barris no mercado internacional, ampliando a oferta e reduzindo pressões nos preços. "Ao desbloquear temporariamente esse suprimento existente para o mundo, os Estados Unidos […] ajudam a aliviar as pressões temporárias sobre o suprimento", afirmou.

O secretário destacou ainda o caráter estratégico da decisão. "Em essência, estaremos usando os barris iranianos contra Teerã para manter o preço baixo enquanto continuamos a operação Fúria Épica", disse.
