Um primeiro suspeito foi detido nas primeiras horas de sábado, logo após ele colocar o dispositivo do lado de fora do prédio do banco, perto da famosa avenida Champs-Élysées. Policiais impediram que o explosivo fosse disparado.
O suspeito estava acompanhado por uma segunda pessoa, que parecia tirar fotos e vídeos com um celular, mas fugiu quando a polícia chegou.
O dispositivo continha cinco litros de um líquido que se acredita ser combustível e um sistema de ignição, segundo uma fonte próxima à investigação.
As duas novas prisões ocorreram na noite de sábado.
Nunez afirmou que os indivíduos pareciam ser "criminosos comuns" atuando como intermediários pagos, em um modus operandi conhecido que envolve pessoas recrutadas para executar esse tipo de ataque.
De acordo com uma fonte policial, o primeiro suspeito disse ter sido recrutado pelo aplicativo Snapchat para realizar um atentado a bomba em troca de 600 euros (cerca de R$ 3,6 mil).

Nunez afirmou não saber quem estava por trás do incidente, mas especulou que poderiam ser agentes ligados ao Irã. A embaixada iraniana em Paris não comentou o caso até o momento.
O incidente ocorreu após mais de um mês de bombardeios dos Estados Unidos e de Israel contra o Irã. A guerra escalou para uma conflagração regional, com o Irã retaliando com ataques a países do Golfo, provocando turbulência nos mercados de energia e ameaçando a economia mundial.
