A ida ao PSB está sendo articulada desde fevereiro. Antes de a decisão ser encaminhada, Soraya recebeu em sua casa, em Campo Grande, Vander Loubet —presidente estadual do PT e pré-candidato ao Senado— e o ex-deputado federal Fábio Trad, pré-candidato ao governo pelo partido.

Na ocasião, as lideranças pediram que ela definisse se integraria o projeto eleitoral petista no Estado. O ingresso da senadora na nova legenda foi negociado com aval do presidente nacional do partido, João Campos, e do vice-presidente da República, Geraldo Alckmin.
