Pontífice pede negociação e critica uso da fé para justificar conflitos

CIDADE DO VATICANO, 11 Abr (Reuters) - O papa Leão fez um apelo veemente aos líderes mundiais para que acabem com o que ele chamou de "loucura da guerra" neste sábado, dia em que as principais autoridades dos EUA e do Irã se reuniam no Paquistão para discutir o fim do conflito que já dura seis semanas.
Em uma vigília especial de oração na Basílica de São Pedro, o primeiro papa norte-americano condenou o uso da linguagem religiosa para justificar a guerra e disse que a "ilusão de onipotência que nos cerca está se tornando cada vez mais imprevisível".
Ao fazer um apelo direto aos líderes mundiais, ele disse: "Parem! É hora da paz! Sentem-se à mesa do diálogo e da mediação, não à mesa onde se planeja o rearmamento".
Conhecido por escolher suas palavras com cuidado, Leão surgiu como um crítico declarado da guerra do Irã.
Neste sábado, ele usou linguagem vigorosa para denunciar o conflito, citando cartas de crianças em zonas de guerra que, segundo ele, descreviam "horror e desumanidade".
O papa também fez referência à oposição da Igreja à invasão do Iraque liderada pelos EUA em 2003, citando um apelo do falecido papa João Paulo 2º feito quatro dias antes do início do conflito.
"Chega da idolatria do eu e do dinheiro!", disse Leão. "Chega de exibição de poder! Chega de guerra!"
O papa, que em 30 de março disse que Deus rejeita as orações de líderes que iniciam guerras e têm as "mãos cheias de sangue", denunciou novamente neste sábado o uso da linguagem cristã para justificar a guerra.
"O equilíbrio dentro da família humana foi severamente desestabilizado", disse Leão. "Até mesmo o santo Nome de Deus, o Deus da vida, está sendo arrastado para discursos de morte."
Declarações anteriores do papa foram interpretadas por comentaristas católicos conservadores como sendo dirigidos ao secretário de Defesa dos EUA, Pete Hegseth, que invocou a linguagem cristã para justificar os ataques conjuntos dos EUA e de Israel contra o Irã.
