Os supermercados devem servir também como área de convívio social da população. Até por esse motivo, a Comissão de Defesa dos Direitos das Pessoas com Deficiência, da Câmara dos Deputados, aprovou proposta que obriga os supermercados, varejões e estabelecimentos semelhantes a disponibilizar funcionários para, em caso de necessidade, auxiliar pessoas com deficiência e mobilidade reduzida a realizar suas compras.

O texto aprovado é o substitutivo da relatora, deputada Conceição Sampaio (PP-AM), ao projeto do deputado Luiz Lauro Filho (PSB-SP). A relatora apresentou substitutivo para que a medida integre a Lei de Acessibilidade. "É mais interessante que tal legislação faça parte de um projeto maior em lugar de ficar uma lei isolada das outras, o que facilita sua consulta e difusão", afirmou.

Conceição Sampaio também retirou do texto descrição detalhada das atividades de apoio que o funcionário deveria realizar. A proposta aprovada determina que os estabelecimentos tenham faixa de piso tátil na entrada para clientes até uma área plana que esteja no interior do recinto.

A fiscalização da medida caberá aos órgãos de defesa do consumidor. No projeto original, essa atribuição estava prevista para os órgãos municipais. "Os órgãos de defesa do consumidor são os mais bem equipados para a fiscalização do cumprimento desta lei", afirmou Sampaio. A proposta será analisada em caráter conclusivo pelas comissões de Desenvolvimento Econômico e de Constituição e Justiça. Tal prática já é exercida em supermercados de outros países, como o Canadá, por exemplo.
