Brazil's health agency board decides today (Friday 15th) whether to maintain or reverse the suspension of 23 Ypê brand products — liquid detergents, laundry soaps and disinfectants with batch numbers ending in 1 — ordered on May 7th due to microbiological contamination risk. The extraordinary meeting is scheduled for 9:30 AM, after the company obtained suspensive effect with an appeal filed the previous Friday.

The suspension was decreed through Resolution RE 1.834/2026 after joint inspection by Anvisa, São Paulo's Health Surveillance Center and Amparo Municipal Surveillance identified 76 irregularities at the Química Amparo factory in Amparo (SP) and contamination in over 100 product batches. According to Anvisa, the irregularities represent "serious problems related to microbiological quality" and non-compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices rules.

Investigations began after complaints from Unilever — owner of Omo and Cif brands — made to Anvisa in October 2025 and March 2026. The competitor conducted technical tests on Ypê products that revealed contamination by Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, considered by the US CDC potentially serious in people with compromised immune systems. Química Amparo committed to implementing 239 corrective actions at the factory to meet health surveillance requirements.

While awaiting the decision, Rio Grande do Norte's Health Department investigates whether a 10-year-old girl hospitalized in Natal with bacterial infection may have been contaminated by Ypê detergent. The child presented intense itching, body spots and shortness of breath after washing cut hands with the product, according to family members.
