Colombia cancels 100% tariffs on Ecuadorian products

2 sources · 14 Apr 2026

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Monday (13) that he will cancel the 100% tariffs on Ecuadorian products. The measure had been announced last week by the Ministry of Commerce in response to similar tariffs imposed by Ecuador.

The trade dispute between Colombia and Ecuador began in January when the Ecuadorian government imposed a 30% tariff on Colombian imports, citing trade deficit and lack of cooperation in combating drug trafficking at the border. Ecuador later raised these tariffs to 100% in May, leading Colombia to announce a similar measure before backing down.
