Democrats and some Republicans push for Trump removal via 25th Amendment

2 sources · 19 Apr 2026

Democratic lawmakers are pushing for Trump's removal using the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, after he threatened to exterminate an entire civilization if Iran did not back down. Some Republicans, including former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, have also declared support for the measure.

The 25th Amendment was added to the US Constitution in 1967 to clarify procedures when a president cannot continue in office due to death, resignation or health problems. The fourth section of the amendment provides for removal from office if the president is unable to exercise the powers and duties of the office, but this section has never been invoked.
