A 50-year-old indigenous man was arrested on Wednesday (20) in the Bacuri community, in the municipality of Tapauá (AM), suspected of raping his own 12-year-old granddaughter. The adolescent became pregnant by the accused and was six months pregnant when the case came to light, according to the Civil Police of Amazonas.

According to investigations by the 80th Interactive Police Station of Beruri, the victim is the suspect's granddaughter because she was born from "consecutive rapes" he allegedly committed against his own daughter over the years. Delegate Jailton Santos reported that the man "hid the girl from the health team and her own family members" and was only discovered after insistence from the indigenous health team for medical monitoring.

Investigations also indicate that the suspect "offered the girl in exchange for money to other indigenous people in the community." A police operation was carried out in April, but the man had fled to a forest area. The arrest was carried out in a joint action between the Civil Police and the Environmental Policing Battalion of the Military Police of Amazonas.
